18th Century English Grandfather Longcase Musical Clock: Samuel Taylor of London:
$6500.00

For sale I have a beautiful English 18th century mahogany inlaid musical clock with 8 bells made by Samuel Taylor of London. I purchased this clock when we lived in England and the movement was overhauled here in the U.S. approximately 4 years ago. The clock is in excellent shape and keeps great time. The family I purchased this from said it came out of an old hotel in Norfolk, UK.

This musical clock chimes on the quarter hour and gongs with a deep, mellow tone on the hour. There is a working lock (with key) that is quite old, but not original. The glass appears to be original because you can see all the waves which is typical of antique glass. The inlay work is quite exquisite and there are only a few very small pieces missing which are barely noticeable. On the case door you will notice a thin split in the surface veneer right down the middle. I wouldn\'t necessarily call this a fault because the veneer was mounted to two separate oak boards and over time those boards have shrunk a bit. The split follows the seam between the boards. To me this is part of the clock\'s DNA and reflects how hand-made furniture was constructed before electricity, modern glues, and engineered plywoods. Structurally speaking, the door is solid and has no issues. I just wanted to point this out in the most honest manner I could.

The dimensions of the clock are 89.5\" High, 10\" Deep, and 19\" Wide (at the base as well as the widest point of the hood).

I posted a 4-minute video on YouTube so you can see the clock in all its glory. Additional information is also provided. am willing to offer free delivery and set-up (by me) within a 250-mile radius of Montgomery, AL as long as the price is right. However if you need the clock shipped, you must coordinate for your own shipper. Please understand I will not release the clock to the shipper until the item is paid in full. I sold another one of my antique clocks earlier this year and the buyer used a company called \"RickShips.\" I will pack the clock in 2 custom-made wooden crates . . . one for the case (measures 88\" x 24\" x 13\" and weighs 80 lbs) and another for the hood (measures 31\" x 25\" x 13\" and weighs 35 pounds). I will also pack the movement and weights in a thick, double-walled china pack (measures 18\" x 18\" x 28 and weights 70 lbs).

I understand this is a significant purchase, so please feel free to ask me any questions or request additional photos. If you\'d like to see the clock in person, you are more than welcome to make a visit to my home in Montgomery, AL. Thank you for your interest.
