Description
Two collectable lithographedtinadvertising signs from Spanish chemical products brand \'Hispano Lubszynski\'. This brand produced several types of cleaners in a local city near Barcelona.
Original lithographed signs which show the main characters of Miguel de Cervantes novel Don Quijote and Sancho Panza while preparing to fight the giants (windmills).
The portrait on the upper margin of Miguel de Cervantes is flanked by two flags but although they may seem the same, they are not. The signs reflect part of the history of Spain during the 2 quarter of the 20th Century.
The smaller advertisingsign (souvenir) is from the International Exhibition which took place in Barcelona in 1929, as seen on thebackside.
As for the larger advertising sign, it stands out that Miguel de Cervantes portrait is flanked by the Spanish Republican flag. This tin advertisement must have been produced some years after the first one. Although both advertisements were produced very near in time, these show how the political situation of the country changed in a short period of time.
After the Spanish civil war most of the republican items, propaganda, publications.... were destroyed either by the nationalist or by people who were afraid to be identified with this ideology.
The condition of the pieces is good-regular. Both have some wears on the surface and oxidation spots on the metal, being these last morepronounced on the backside.
