It's all in the firmware
One advantage of not being an early adopter is that one has solid firmware (3.1.1-14) and the unit now seems stable enough. On the other hand, people report its speed is limited (~20 Mbps), but that is not a limiting issue for me. Would be nice if it ran a little cooler. I'm just using it as a router to share one IP address across my home network (using NAT). Simple to Complex - Open to Restricted
This non wireless 8 port gigabit has been wonderful for the home and office. If used, I suggest a "reset" prior using it. I've used it direct to most consumer ISP's (after their proprietary modems), then added a quality 4 port or less to one of the Netgear 8 ports. The downloadable pdf manual is explains options in either auto or detailed, with additional suggestions depending on circumstances. NetGear updates it's firmware occasionally if in auto mode but suggest checking it every once in a while to see if anything is available. Yep, versatile little thing. I'd do it again and probably will for someone needing reliable network in their environment. I already had 3 before I got this one for someone else. the router works great... needed the extra ports to hard wire my devises. need the extra ports , so I had to replace my 4 port router.Could not be any easier to install. works great.

Good but could be better
Nice firewall but thru-put is only 22 mbps the lowest of all netgear products. the interface is nice and well rounded but lan setup in bare bones no mac filter or dhcp reservation. good for business applications.

Most of the time delivers what maker cliam . Ip adress keeps in check 98 percent of the time even when i filled all eight ports hand computers running .
