Useful tool for certification prep, fun to tinker with
I first started looking into the Cisco 2500 series by considering the 2501, as it is the base router in the older equipment guides for CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification prep. This changed as I practiced more in my classes I knew the only router worth my while in the 2500 series would be the 2514 (due to the dual LAN interfaces). For an average price of about $25 (both on eBay and locally) one can now get one of these routers, which originally retailed for prices in the thousands. Granted, these no longer meet Cisco's equipment suggestions for the CCNA labs, but they get the job done and don't put you at risk of feeling lost trying to find your way around more complex equipment such as the now Cisco-suggested 1800/2800 routers. This is especially important when you're ... This particular model is a refurbished product and when compared with my non-refurb 2514 it has a few extra components soldered to the board as well as a non-original power supply and fan. The fans which were apparently substituted for the originals are 5mm thicker and will eventually (in my experience) burn themselves out struggling for air flow. The unit also has signs of being counterfeit Cisco equipment but I attribute that to the refurbished distinction. This router is also a nice one to simply tinker with when you want to experiment with load balancing and various other features.

Buying 2500 Series Routers
When buying 2500 series router make sure the seller has a image on the screen of the configurations on that router.If they don't have a image I recommend a don't buy, because your going to get burned. The prices are cheap and great to use for studying for CCNA AND CCNP exams. Just friendly advice ask any questions when in doubt and check their customer satisfaction within the last month or so.
