This is an oldie but goodie. I bought one of these very recently, as soon as it got here I wired it up and wiped the stock firmware, this router is quite old these days, and has no security fixes from the decade or so past. Flashing it with dd-wrt makes this router infinitely better. Configured it to act as a 5-port switch, extended my network for my PS4 and wired PC without having to screw about with WiFi (disabled WiFi entirely) One must be 100% positive the dir825 they're buying is of the "B1" revision, dd-wrt is not stable with rev A, nor rev C, rev B2 yields mixed results, B1 I've ran for years and can vouch for its stability under dd-wrt.

I have had zero problems with this router, we hooked it up and reset our cable modem. It picked up the internet and started working perfectly. The transfer speed on the wired 1gb connection is great, we are copying files extremely fast. The 2.4ghz band picks up a lot further than the 5ghz band but the range is pretty good. I have another N router that is 2.4ghz only that has much better reception at a longer distance but this router is acceptable. We get 4-5 bars everywhere in our home, which is a large home. The router is on the 3rd story and we still get 4 bars on the bottom level. The shareport (USB) on the router is funny with our printer and has to be unplugged and plugged in about once a day for it to work correctly. Using the shareport with our external hard-drive works perfectly with zero problems. We are having problems setting up the public network though, our friends are having issues connecting to it half the time. We dont want them on our windows 7 homegroup so we had to setup a public side but even though the manual says it should work, it only about half works. So if you wanting this router for the shareport and the public network SSID then I would look elsewhere, but if your wanting a good router that's dual band with good reception and 10/100/1000 then this router should work perfectly for you.Read full review
Well where do I start. Well first let me say I was pleased with the overall look of the iteam if that means anything ...but I'm a gadget guy soooo...Ok I get my new router and I cant wait to get started...I've heard so many good things about the power the DIR 825 brings to the table so I'm excited!! I get it in my mind that I need to follow the installation instructions to the letter to get this thing up and running without a glitch...you know how we all love little tech headaches (GLITCHES). So I'm breezing ahead and everything is fine I"m watching all of the windows pop up and asking a question or two and then its on to the next bit of instruction...I've got this beast of a router hooked up to my desk top and all I want is to see it done corretly. I'm exited!! Well after the hour and a half I spent with tech support becase my laptop couldnt see the router for some reason!!! What happend after that still baffles me...it desideied to just connect on its own...can someone help me with that one? I mean I spent all this time with the tech fron D-link one solution after another and nothing,,,calling me back twice and NOTHING!!! I got another number to call with a case number ???? But hey, I appreciated all of the help from the tech at D-link he tried. After all of that the performace has been great!! Super range and jitter free streaming. I'm only at 150 mbps, triple what I was getting with my now retired trusted Linskey....I've only had it one day...and when all is said I'm happy ...but can I get the speed up on this 825..I'd like to see 200 mbps...is it possible....I'm gonna end and give the router a good ++++ and I'll keep you's all updated.Read full review
I purchased this product a few weeks ago and had it hooked up in my home. The pro's: Good range. Dual band. Lots of features and advanced settings. B/G/N compatible. Con's: SLOW 5Gig. bandwidth speeds. I dont know what the problem is but I was having unusually slow bandwidth transfer while streaming HD video in the 5G band. I did some research and found that laptops that are draft N capable have some limitations that may keep them from streaming past 150 MBS. I was getting less than that from this router so I have decided to sell it off. I also found that there were others that have run into this problem. For some reason this is a good router, but the reviews that it has gotten have been less than stellar. In my research the WNDR 3700 is a better router. So..I bought a netgear wndr 3700 and it has lived up to the hype. If you want a great dual band router, I would recommend the 2009 CED award winner. Get a Netgear 3700. Thanks.Read full review
