The BAD - I really had a hard time clicking in the "Yes" for Recommending this switch as it (to me) it not ready for prime time. I feel like it has a lot of potential but this represents a completely new / overhaul of the GUI with the intention of using it as the primary method of configuring the switch. in doing this they decided to strip down the CLI to bare-bones which means you are kind of stuck between two half-baked methods of configuring the switch. Doing something as simple as configuring the default gateway for the VLAN 1 IP Address isn't possible through the GUI (even thought everything is supposed to be done through it) and has to be done through the CLI. This wouldn't be so bad but I find that the documentation is horrendous and is almost impossible to decipher how to accomplish what should be relatively simple tasks. One other important thing to keep in mind this is an "L2 Plus" switch whatever the heck that means. It isn't fully L3 but has some L3 Capabilities. This is not really explained well anywhere in the documentation. The Good - Getting away from the Negativity I bought this switch for two reasons 1) 10G Ethernet Support 2) POE Support. The 10G support has been pretty good, the switch has not been picky at all about the SFP+ or DAC Cables I've plugged in to it. I can't comment on the POE yet as I haven't migrated over any of my POE Devices to it. One thing that you need to be aware of with the POE - Even thought this is a 48 Port Switch only 24 ports are POE (the first 24) the rest are NOT. And if you want POE Plus then you will get even less ports depending on the power draw. Another thing worth mentioning, when you fist plug the switch in the fans spin up like a jet engine but end up settling down to a point where you can barely hear it. This was great as it is in a home office / not a server room. So if you are looking for a switch that offers POE and 10G this is a really good bang for the buck. If you are looking to do some advanced configurations on it (like Inter-VLAN Routing) well you might end up swearing at it a-lot. I've been told it can do it but have yet to get it to work.Read full review

The first thing I notice about this switch is that the gui is fairly slow. Hopefully the firmware update that is out will resolve this. Aside from that, the switch has everything I could want. I would note the same as other posters. Only the first 24 ports are POE. There are certain situations where that wouldn't be enough, such as large offices with POE powered phones. Since the x1052 is 10" deep and the x1052p is 16" deep, I have to assume that the reason the x1052p has only 24 POE ports is to control the depth so it will fit in shallow cabinets that small to medium sized businesses might use instead of a full rack or cabinet. The features are quite good. Trunk mode now allows all tagged AND untagged traffic to pass through... which is quite handy. This can save you additional cable pulls in an environment where you're deploying sonicpoints beyond another x series dell switch that is connected through this switch... at least it did for me. As for the previous review where you cannot set the default gateway from the gui... he's correct about that. You don't need to though, as you can set a route or set of routes. Default gateways are handy and we've come to depend on them, but for a lot of enterprise deployments we end up using routes anyways... so it's really not a big deal. Overall, this switch is great. As with anything, there are some improvements that could be made but in this case they are minor improvements that could be corrected with new firmware. Those are not glaring issues, just irritants.Read full review
