I purchased this switch wanting something more up to date than the 3COM OfficeConnect9 switches I was used to. I am not the greatest 3COM fan, but I can admit when someone makes a great product, and the 3CR16708 or 3CR16709's I have used for years were true workhorses. I chose to purchase this as an updated substitute for the now disappearing older versions. Slick case, no wall wart power supply (direct feed AC), nice and quiet (what I've come to expect from any modern switch), and loaded with features. Very slick. The *only* drawback I could find was it's incredibly *long* boot cycle. Since I am using this in no small part for it's PoE feature, I noticed that it can take several minutes for the switch to boot and come online after a power interruption.. whereas the previous ones I was used to booted within 1 min. Solid, excellent construction, totally manageable, tons of features (too many to get into), nice management interface, good solid performance (wire speed et al) in a well thought out and aesthetically simple package. I am intrigued by support for upcoming 29Watt PoE devices.. makes me feel momentarily future-ready. Would I buy one again? sure. Solid. Sure. Attractive pricepoint. Yes. I feel it's a winner for a small workgroup switch, and I'll add it to my list of preferred hardware. Again, I'm not a 3COM fan, but this is a "darn good piece of gear" and I will continue to use it in my own network.Read full review
