    Great router

Has a gigabit port. Hard wired had excellent speed, but wireless is limited to about 25 Mbps . Great for simple home use.

  • overheats and dies, common problem with this model.

The WRT310N looks nice, especially vfor the price, but beware of this model router! First, this model has an overheating problem. The main chips (on top side of board) produce enormous heat, which will in fact kill your router (begining with dropped wireless signals, then no broadcast at all.. followed by loss of lan ports). It's common with this particular router. While it's fatures are nice, including gigabit lan ports, and ability to run 3rd party firmware like Tomato and DD-WRT (don't boost the TX power or it will overheat enough to actually melt the plastic casing).. There are other routers with these features around the same price range that won't overheat. You can do a simple search engine search for this router and see all the complaints about this problem yourself, including ...

  • Excellent top of the line router once you install DD-WRT

I've had one of these for years without any problems. Recently it started having some issues DNS confusion. Instead of buying a new router, I installed DD-WRT and it fixed it right up along with turning on some really great features. I ended up buying a second one to use as a seamless wireless access point using DD-WRT as well and the setup works perfectly. No overheating issues here.

  • DD-WRT transforms it into a beast!

I cannot talk about its performance with stock firmware because I had not used with it. I bought it specifically to flash it with DD-WRT firmware and use it as a repeater bridge in my home network, which the stock firmware does not allow to do. It serves two wired clients and multiple wireless ones in its extended wireless network. It is running now for three weeks continuously without a single reboot. Although some reviews say this router has overheating problems, those were not reproduced by me, even at default settings with DD-WRT. I have NOT overclocked the router nor increased signal strength; actually, in my case lowering transmission power and choosing channels carefully provided faster and more stable wireless connection with the main router (135Mbps are common between both ...

  • Great product!

Bought WRT310N to replace my outdated WRT54G, which did not have 'n' capabilities, thus restricting the speeds over wi-fi of my laptop and iPad. My speeds over wi-fi roughly tripled! WRT310N is fast, reliable, easy to set up and very nice looking. Of course I changed it's firmware to DD-WRT, which gave me even more control over the routers capabilities! The only bad feature I see so far is that the blue lights on the front side are too bright and if you are watching TV in the dark and the router is somewhere you can see it - it is very annoying...
