I am using this box as a pfSense firewall. It installed super easy - I removed the flash card, and installed an SSD first. I attached the SSD to my laptop, and installed pfSense on the disk before attaching it to the firewall. The rest was done via Putty, a Cisco USB to RJ45 cable, and a pfSense installer. There are a lot of howto’s online. Super easy, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. This is a solid appliance for this use.

Turned this in to an AWESOME OPNsense firewall appliance, opened it up blew out the decade of dust, Upgraded the CPU to a larger dual core 3.2Ghz E5800, then updated the BIOS to version 8.1. Flashed OPNsense to a larger CF card, and added a large Sandisk SSD to actually install OPNsense too. Then booted it up and used putty to get it all installed to the sandisk. Rebooted during the reboot I removed the CF card and she is purring like a kitten. No need to upgrade the 2Gb of ram it came with, at-least not yet. NO LICENSE FEES, CONTRACTS, OR FORCED HARDWARE UPGRADES EVERY FEW YEARS OR WITH EVERY NEW SOFTWARE RELEASE NOW.

I purchased this firewall to install pfSense after my manager recommended it to me. pfSense installed easily. I have since upgraded the RAM and CPU but that is because I wanted to upgrade it. System would work fine without upgrades.
