  • Not all Model M's are mechanical

If you're looking for a classic mechanical IBM keyboard, with the famously clicky buckling-spring switches under each key, you should be aware that Model M's whose labels show a "part no." starting with 6 or 7 (e.g. 60G0817, 71G4634) are the "quieter" rubber-dome (RD) versions, which IBM made for places where the regular Model M's clicky chatter would be too intrusive. By nature, rubber domes aren't as long-lasting as mechanical switches. So while it's common to find 20- to 30-year-old mechanical M's that still work and feel as well as ever, an RD version that was used long and hard may have lost some of its responsiveness. • Not the "clicky keys" version

My old IT guy gave me an ancient IBM Model M with the buckling spring (clicky) keys from 1987 and I LOVE it. I went searching for another and ordered this. No criticism to the seller but this is an early membrane version w/o the buckling springs that push your fingers back. These keys are slow to snap back. I should have done further research.
