The SOL Computer was released in April of 1975, 49 years ago.
SOL-20 computers use a personality module containing the basic operating system for the computer. The program handles I/O routines for “Pseudo-ports” including Tape I/O functions. It was named because it gives the SOL-20 computer a personality of sorts. With its firmware the user can interface to the outside world via the serial, parallel or tape ports and also interface with the keyboard and video monitor. Also dump memory contents at will. It is a simple and elegant mini-operating platform.
I believe that the Personality Module contains a copy of SOLOS but I have no way of finding out.
SOLOS is a 2048 byte program that configures the Sol-20 and one or two cassette tape recorders into a powerful, stand-alone computing system. SOLOS takes advantage of the Sol-20's built-in hardware peripherals and the 8080 instruction set to optimize the convenience and power of the inherent computer capabilities of the Sol.
